SHARE IN MY PERSONAL STORY
I’d like to share a personal anecdote that beautifully illustrates the power of appreciating the small victories in life. It was a challenging period in my own journey, filled with setbacks and doubts. I found myself struggling to see the light amidst the darkness, questioning my ability to bounce back from adversity. I questioned everything around the possibility of me coming to light, becoming something reasonable in life. I’ve always crave for a future where my kids will be proud and boost of me as their father, both in private and openly. The more I dream, the more it seems farther and impossible, first I have been writing since I was basically fourteen years, fifteen years forward, I had nothing to nothing to show.
Depression knew my address. The feeling of worthlessness was not farther than every thirty minutes from me. Did I contemplate suicide? Oh yes! This reflected in the hundreds of dark poems I have in my collection. There was a day I stumbled on a question “which is easier, to forgive others or to forgive oneself?” I knew that I could easily forgive others than forgive myself.
One day, feeling particularly depressed, broken, disheartened and worthless as usual, I stumbled upon the concept of the Daily Appreciation Jar. Intrigued, I decided to give it a try, hoping that it might bring a glimmer of positivity to my days.
As I embarked on this practice, I made a commitment to myself to find something to appreciate or acknowledge a small victory each day, no matter how small or insignificant it may have seemed.
